Mike Hoddell

Mike was one of the founding partners of Springboard. In his product design work he has developed an engineered and functional approach to combining materials in an optimum, innovative and cost effective way. Projects benefit from his experience in engineering, electronics, production techniques and product development.

Recent interactive exhibit projects for schools and science centres have involved Mike in forming creative teams with inventors and scientists working with electrical, software, structural and mechanical engineers.

Joseph Ottewill

On graduating Joe started a design/build workshop in Bristol before moving to France to work on barn conversion projects. Returning to the UK he joined the British Museum (Natural History) to design interactive exhibits for New Exhibition schemes which revolutionised the public galleries. After seven years he moved back to Bristol to add his experience to Springboard’s product and exhibition design projects.

His clients have included Eva Jiricna Architects, Richard Rogers and Partners, Foster Associates and Lifshultz Davidson. Joe’s interest is in structures including the design of glass and stainless steel staircases, museum showcases and interactive exhibits.

Rob Mackay

A trained graphic designer, Rob joined book publishers Hodder and Stoughton Educational, working on the design of secondary and higher education titles. In 1980 he joined Information Design Workshop in London, working for clients in the health education, IT and voluntary sectors.

After a spell at the Centre for Science and Environment in New Delhi, Rob joined Springboard in 1984. Since then he has worked on a wide variety of both graphic and exhibition design projects.

Rob’s skills lie in the effective organisation and display of information in both printed and screen based graphics and in the design of visitor centres, educational exhibitions & interpretive displays.
